Biography

Dr. Zengtao Chen is a tenured professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Alberta. He is an elected American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Fellow. He has been a faculty member at Harbin Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University and the University of New Brunswick prior to the current position. He has been the Director of Graduate Studies and Department Chair for four years at New Brunswick. He won two merit awards and was named one of two University Research Scholars in 2013. Dr. Chen has published extensively in solid mechanics, including over 190 prestigious journals, three books, numerous conference papers and invited and keynote speeches, with more than 2400 citations and an H-index of 27. He is an editor or guest editor of 8 journals and the scientific committee member of more than 30 mainstream international conferences. Dr. Chen has trained many graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and many of them became academics in world-renowned institutions, including McGill, Waterloo, etc. Dr. Chen has served as a committee member for many organizations and conferences, including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board, the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education of China.
